History
Over 100 years ago, Patrick Hughes landed in Philadelphia from Ireland and began traveling the streets with a horse drawn cart, moving pianos and household items throughout the area. Hughes and Duffy remained in the control of the Hughes family for eighty-five years, passing through the hands of three successive generations.
In 1977, Robert M. Hughes, a great grandson of Patrick Hughes, formed a local moving company: Hughes Moving and Storage. Starting with one truck, Bob Hughes concentrated on servicing local moving clients throughout Philadelphia and the Main Line. By 1980 the firm was handling 500 local moves per year and was recognized by Philadelphia Magazine as "The Best Mover in Philly".
The growth was so great that in 1982 the company purchased the assets of Fischer's Transfer. Fischer's had been in operation in the Doylestown area since the early 1930's and had earned a solid reputation. With the acquisition of Fischer Transfer came the affiliation with the most dynamic interstate van line in the country - United Van Lines. With the purchase of Fischer's, the company was renamed Fischer-Hughes Transport, Inc.
These and many other achievements positioned the company for growth well into the 1990's. Other moving companies continued to be acquired, including the purchase of Louderback Transportation's assets which made Fischer-Hughes the parent company of American Way Moving Systems, an agent for Mayflower Transit. This put Fischer-Hughes in the unique position of being able to offer moving services through United Van Lines or Mayflower Transit.
In 2001, Hughes Relocation Services was formed to unify and encompass all locations. Hughes Relocation Services has become one of United Van Lines largest and most versatile agents. The reputation for service and integrity begun 100 years ago by the Hughes family continues to be enhanced.

Fischer-Hughes operates four locations, three in the tri-state area, and one in Florida.

Fischer-Hughes owns or leases over 400,000 square feet of Class A warehouse space.
SIZE
Fischer-Hughes is in the top 10% of United Van Line agencies worldwide. The Fischer-Hughes trucking fleet consists of 70 power units and over 80 trailers, including air-ride, drop deck, flat bed, straight truck and liftgate configuration, as well as all sizes of smaller auxiliary vans.
TECHNOLOGY
The Fischer-Hughes organization is technologically advanced, having acquired satellite vehicle tracking service and fully automated office and rating system software.
LABOR
The Fischer-Hughes labor force consists of 150 full time driving, moving and packing associates. In addition we maintain a weekend, night shift and seasonal call list of 75 additional experienced personnel.
TRAINING
All Fischer-Hughes associates participate in 40 hours of class room training and an additional 200 hours of field observation prior to receiving full employee certification.
EFFICIENT
Fischer-Hughes employs three full time, Class 8 certified mechanics and performs 97% of preventive maintenance tasks in-house.
COMMUNITY ORIENTED
The Fischer-Hughes organization supports numerous charitable organizations through substantial service in kind donations. These include the MS Society Bike-A-Thon, Bucks Country Chamber of Commerce, Girl Scouts, Abington Hospital Festival of Trees, Mercer Museum, Bucks County Symphony Orchestra, A Woman's Place, the Pearl Buck Foundation, and others.
